Explore Peru’s Urubamba Valley on this day trip from Cusco! Visit the Andean village of Chinchero, see the former salt-producing town of Maras, view the impressive terracing of Moray and marvel at the Inca fortress in Ollantaytambo and Pisaq as you learn about the rich history of the valley’s colonial villages from your local guide.
On this day trip from Cusco, travel to Peru’s historic Urubamba Valley. Located between Cusco and Machu Picchu, Urubamba Valley is known for its lush scenery, picturesque colonial towns and a magnificent Inca fortress.After pickup from your hotel, your first stop is in the Andean village of Chinchero. Here, you’ll take in mountain views, visit the main square and see an ancient church with unique floral and religious interior designs. Next, head off the beaten path to the small town of Maras. This village is known as a former salt-producing center that dates back all the way to colonial times. From there, you’ll head to the fascinating display of terraces in Moray, located only about 2 miles (4 km) from Maras. Moray boasts three amphitheater-like terraces made by the Incas. These terraces, which are carved deep into the earth in a bowl shape, were thought to be used to determine the optimal conditions for growing crops. After visiting Moray, take a lunch break at a restaurant in the area. You’ll have the option of selecting one of restaurant, . After filling up on delicious food, you’ll be ready for the next part of the day trip. Following lunch, continue on your tour to Ollantaytambo, home to a magnificent Inca fortress that you can explore. This historic fortress was where Spanish conquistadors lost a major battle against the Inca Empire. After you visit the fortress, you’ll continue to visit Pisac is an important archaeological site in the region of Cusco. before heading back to Cusco.

MARAS:

The Sacred Valley of the Incas or Urubamba Valley is a valley in the Andes of Peru, close to the Inca capital of Cusco and below the ancient sacred city of Machu Picchu. The valley is generally understood to include everything between Písac and Ollantaytambo, parallel to the Urubamba River, or Vilcanota River or Wilcamayu, as this Sacred river is called when passing through the valley. It is fed by numerous rivers which descend through adjoining valleys and gorges, and contains numerous archaeological remains and villages. The valley was appreciated by the Incas due to its special geographical and climatic qualities. It was one of the empire’s main points for the extraction of natural wealth, and the best place for maize production in Peru.
The Incas called this the Sacred Valley because it was there that they developed a rich agricultural society, and built fortresses and different complexes, like Pisac and Ollantaytambo, each place with thousands of stories to tell. Adventures in the Sacred Valley.
From Ollantaytambo you can take the train to go to Aguas Calientes to spend the night there and visit Machu Picchu. We would be pleased to help you with any of these arrangements.
OLLANTAYTAMBO RUIN
Sacred ValleyIt is here in this most beautiful, strategic spot, 60 kilometres from Cusco, that the Inca Pachacutec built his fortress of Ollantaytambo. It is a beautiful setting and the hills that surround it hide some of the most impressive ruins in the Valley.
It contains structures such as the Temple of the Sun, the Royal Hall, the Incahuatana and the Banos de la Princesa (Princess Baths).
This site is one of the few places that the Spaniards lost a battle during the conquest.
PISAC MARKET & RUINS
Pisac Market – Sacred Valley The town of Pisac is an important archaeological site in the region of Cusco.
There is a colourful market on Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays in the morning.
Here we experience a vibrant atmosphere of communities, traditions and bartering. There are many handicrafts and textiles made in true pre-Columbain style to purchase. Every Sunday there is also a procession of the mayors, who at around 09h30 go to church to attend the traditional Mass held in Quechua.
Finally we return to Cusco at approximately 7:00 pm hrs.
