FOR EXPERIENCED BACKPACKERS ONLY! This low budget option is not for the faint of heart. The road to Machu Picchu is 7+ hours each way on winding roads, 2 hours of which are high and unpaved with steep drop offs to the river below. The tour includes basic hostel accommodation (dorm rooms) and shared transport (you will not have private vehicles so be prepared to share the van with locals and other travelers).

This tour leaves from the top of the hill at 8:30 am. The bus will take you straight to Santa Teresa, where we will stop for some lunch. The group will continue driving to the Hydroelectric power plant where the driving portion of the tour will end. From the Hydroelectric power plant there is no road to reach Aguas Calientes and the road to Machu Picchu. A 3-4 hour flat walk along the train tracks and the group will arrive in Aguas Calientes between 6:30 and 7:00 pm. It is possible to take a train from the Hydro plant to Aguas Calientes for US$25 but it does not depart until 6:00 pm (so travelers would have to wait for around 2 hours at the Hydro plant). we will provide you with detailed info and a map from the Hydro to your Hostel in Aguas Calientes, it will be up to you to find the Hostel. After an hour to clean up and relax the group will have dinner at the hostel between 7:30 and 8:00pm followed by a briefing with the guide about the specifics of your visit to Machu Picchu. An early bedtime is recommended to prepare for an unforgettable experience the following day.
According to the information of the professional guide and after breakfast very early we start the trek to Machu Picchu arriving at 6am where we will have a guided tour of 2 hours in the main sectors of the citadel of Machu Picchu then have a free time tour in Machu Picchu at 5 pm Machu Picchu, Machu Picchu down to the village of hot springs and accommodation in the same hotel.
In the free morning at 11am we will walk back to Hidroeléctrica where our bus will wait and bring it back to Cusco peru arriving at 9:30 pm.

How to get to Machu Picchu?
To reach Machu Picchu, there are different ways such as; railroad track (trains), via land (bus), trips and / or hiking to Machu Picchu.
BY TRAIN
If you want to go by train to Machu Picchu, consider that no trains leaves direct from Cusco city and none goes to the city of Cusco. That’s why before board your train have to take a bus or a cab to the starting point you have decided. There are two train stations:
Poroy station is approximately 30 minutes by cab from Cusco city.
Ollantaytambo station is approximately 2 hours by bus from Cusco city.
At the moment to choose in which train will go, you will have to choose between two companies:
PERU RAIL: This company has a variety of schedules and offers three types of services: Expedition, Vistadome and the Hiram Bingham, besides it has two points of departures and arrivals.

How to go From Aguas Calientes to Machu Picchu?
Aguas Calientes also called Machu Picchu Pueblo, is the place which hosts the citadel of Machu Picchu. There are two ways to get to Machu Picchu.
